Two new ANR awardees at ISIS!

Giulio Ragazzon, senior team leader at ISIS, and Cyrille Solaro, junior team leader, are both recipients of the 2025 ANR call!

Pr Giulio Ragazzon, head of the ‘Driven Chemical Processes’ team, and Dr. Cyrille Solaro, head of the ‘Metrology, Trapped Ions and Cold Molecules’ team at the European Center for Quantum Sciences, are both awardees of the 2025 call of the French National Research Agency: congratulations to them!

  • The "NERD" project, led by Pr Giulio Ragazzon, is a collaboration between Prof. Massimiliano Esposito’s group at the University of Luxembourg and the team in Strasbourg. The goal is to understand how to use electrical stimuli to separate liquids — a fascinating phenomenon with great industrial potential, but still not well understood. The Strasbourg group will focus on experiments, while the Luxembourg team will develop theoretical models and use machine learning techniques to better optimize and understand the process.

  • The ability to manipulate the internal and external degrees of freedom of isolated atoms and atomic ions underpins their use in many quantum technologies. Achieving the same level of control over molecules would open up even more promising prospects. The COSMIQAL project, led by Dr Cyrille Solaro, will make a decisive leap in this direction by demonstrating the coherent manipulation of molecular vibrational states, fully exploiting the potential of ultra-stable laser sources in the mid-infrared. The project will focus on the diatomic molecular ion SrH⁺, due to its relevance for quantum information processing and precision measurements. However, since the experimental methods envisioned are not specific to SrH⁺, the project will pave the way for future ultra-high-precision experiments on complex polyatomic ions, offering new opportunities in fundamental physics, quantum chemistry, and quantum technologies.
