60 years of science, community, and inspiration

On August 28–29, the Institute of Supramolecular Science and Engineering - ISIS hosted a unique event as we celebrated the 60th anniversary of the laboratory founded by Nobel Laureate Jean-Marie Lehn, pioneer of supramolecular chemistry (1965-2025).

126 alumni — from 26 to 85 years old, representing 30+ countries — gathered to honor not only the lab’s scientific legacy but also the human bonds shaped by their time with Prof. Lehn.

The event opened with a plenary lecture by Professor Lehn, going over the major milestones of his team and the different topics explored over the decades. Presentations by some twenty former colleagues complemented this account by showcasing the diversity of scientific and professional trajectories among Lehn Lab alumni. Together, they highlighted the lab’s lasting impact on chemistry worldwide and its role in shaping European science.

Sixty years on, the “Labo Lehn” continues to embody curiosity, rigor, and enduring connections across generations and continents.
