Institut de Science et d’Ingénierie Supramoléculaires
The institute ISIS is a Mixed Research Unit (UMR 7006) of CNRS and the University of Strasbourg. Our mission is to do multidisciplinary research at the interface between Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. To this end, the institute is located at the Esplanade campus (in the center of Strasbourg), surrounded by the faculties of Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences. ISIS reports directly to the Vice President of Research of the University of Strasbourg. The institute consists of Senior Laboratories, Junior Laboratories, and (public & private) Industrial Laboratories.
-
The Senior Laboratories are directed by well-established scientists that are internationally renowned. They are supported by the Ministry of Research and Technology, and by local, regional, European, and global funding sources.
-
The Junior Laboratories are headed by young researchers that are independent both in terms of research as well as funding. The group leaders have a non-permanent contract (of max. 6 years), during which they can develop their own original line of research. After this 6 year period they are encouraged to move to other institutions.
-
The Industrial Laboratories are mixed between the public and private sector, and have an overlap in activities with the research performed at ISIS. The have contracts of fixed duration that allow the allocation of laboratory and office space, as well as the use of the ISIS infrastructure.
