Pascal Mayer awarded the 2026 Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research

The Institute of Supramolecular Science and Engineering is proud to celebrate the distinction awarded to Pascal Mayer, professeur conventionné at the University of Strasbourg and Honorary Chair at the University of Strasbourg Institute of Advanced Studies, who has received the 2026 Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research alongside David Klenerman and Shankar Balasubramanian.

The award recognizes their pioneering contributions to next-generation DNA sequencing technologies, which have profoundly transformed biology, biomedicine, clinical diagnostics, and personalized medicine worldwide. By enabling rapid, high-throughput, and increasingly accessible genome sequencing, these innovations have had a major impact on both fundamental research and medical applications.

This prestigious international recognition follows other major distinctions already awarded for this groundbreaking work, including the Breakthrough Prize and the Canada Gairdner International Award, further underscoring the scientific and societal importance of these advances.

The Princess of Asturias Awards are among the most prestigious international distinctions, honoring achievements of major significance in science, culture, and society.

Our laboratory warmly congratulates Pascal Mayer on this remarkable achievement, which represents a great source of pride for UMR 7006, the University of Strasbourg, and the wider scientific community.
