Paolo Samorì and Giulio Ragazzon elected members of the Italian Academy of Engineering and Technology (ITATEC)

Paolo Samorì, Director of the Institut de Science et d'Ingénierie Supramoléculaires (ISIS, CNRS/University of Strasbourg), and Giulio Ragazzon, group leader at ISIS, have been elected members of the Italian Academy of Engineering and Technology (ITATEC). This prestigious distinction recognizes their outstanding scientific contributions and their international leadership in the fields of chemistry and materials science.

Founded in 2022, ITATEC is one of Europe's youngest academies of engineering and technology and a member of the Euro-CASE network, which brings together national academies of engineering, applied sciences and technology from 23 European countries. The Academy promotes the exchange of knowledge between academia, research organizations and industry, provides independent scientific and technological advice to policymakers and society, and represents the engineering and technology community at the European and international levels.

Membership of ITATEC is awarded solely on the basis of scientific excellence and is held in a personal capacity. Paolo Samorì has been elected as a permanent Ordinary Member. Giulio Ragazzon joins the Academy as a Junior Member, a category unique among European academies that recognizes outstanding researchers under the age of 40 and grants them the same rights and responsibilities as ordinary members during their five-year term.

Paolo Samorì is internationally recognized for his pioneering work in nanoscience, nanochemistry and multifunctional materials. Over the past two decades, his research has led to the development of innovative materials and devices for applications in smart (opto)electronics, energy storage and sensing technologies. He is already a member of several prestigious academies, including the Académie des technologies, ACATECH, Academia Europaea and EURASC.

Since joining ISIS in 2021, Giulio Ragazzon has led a research team investigating molecular non-equilibrium processes. His interdisciplinary approach combines chemistry, physics and biology to understand and harness systems operating far from equilibrium, opening new perspectives for molecular machines, adaptive materials and energy conversion. His achievements have been recognized with several prestigious distinctions, including the European Young Chemist Award and an ERC Starting Grant.
